IHS Research into Headache in Children and Adolescents – Seed Funding Grant
The International Headache Society is funding awards to initiate projects that study headaches in Children and Adolescents in low/lower-middle income countries. The purpose of these awards is intended to initiate new projects that will result in extramural funding.

IHS Short-stay Scholarship

Clinical training period of up to 6 weeks at an international headache centre. In IHC years this will usually be in the region where the IHC is held and scholars will attend the IHC. In non-IHC years the scholar will attend a major headache congress and headache centre in the same region.

Two-Year Research Awards in Headache and Migraine

Funding Period: 24 months

The American Migraine Foundation (AMF) in partnership with the American Headache Society (AHS) invites Letters of Intent (LOIs) for the David Dodick research awards, a competitive twoyear research awards that advance high-impact, patient-centered headache and migraine research.

This RFA is intentionally aligned with research priorities identified by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) with the American Headache Society (AHS), and an international multi-stakeholder expert panel, particularly those that:

  • Address unmet clinical needs
  • Improve diagnosis, stratification, and treatment selection
  • Accelerate translation from discovery to practice
  • Reduce disability, inequities, and care gaps in headache medicine



Pfizer supports the global healthcare community’s independent initiatives (e.g., research, quality improvement or education) to improve patient outcoímes in areas of unmet medical need that are aligned with Pfizer’s medical and/or scientific strategies.
In the past, this award consisted of a commitment of $65,000 per year for two years, plus a $10,000 per year stipend to support education and research-related costs for a total of $150,000. Supplementation of the award with other grants was permissible, but to be eligible to apply for this award, the other grant source(s) could not exceed $75,000 annually.

The NHF has a more than $2 million in 215 research grants to physicians and scientists working in the field of headache medicine. These research studies have resulted in more than $10 million of subsequent funding from the National Institutes of Health


AHS Headache & Migraine Competitive Grant Programs.




The American Headache Society and Pfizer are collaborating to offer a new grant opportunity seeking proposals for quality improvement initiatives that will address quality gaps in headache medicine. The projects will produce information or tools that can be widely used in the field and lead to measurable improvements in healthcare services for individuals with headache. Projects are expected to contribute to the core goal of AHS, and focus on safety, clinical effectiveness, rapidity of diagnosis/proper treatment, efficiency, patient centered care, and/or equity. Multiple awards available requesting up to $250,000 for a two-year project period.

International Headache Week (IHW), set to take place March 15-21, 2026, is a global initiative led by Lifting The Burden (LTB) to raise awareness of the burden of headache disorders worldwide.


Rita Allen Foundation .


Since 2009, the Rita Allen Foundation has provided a special award for early-career leaders in basic pain research whose work holds high potential for uncovering new pathways to improve the treatment of chronic pain.

The Foundation has awarded annually two grants or more in the amount of $150,000 over three years to early-career investigators pursuing innovative research that focuses on basic science mechanisms of pain.

Eligible candidates will have completed their training and provided persuasive evidence of distinguished achievement or extraordinary promise in basic research in pain. Candidates should be in the early stages of their career with an appointment at the faculty level.
